Jeff Caulfield

Head Coach

Bio: Already the winningest coach in program history, Jeff Caulfield continued his string of successes with the Valiant baseball program in his sixth season at the helm in 2010.

Last season, Caulfield guided the Valiants to the program’s first Freedom Conference Tournament championship and second NCAA Tournament berth with a 22-21-1 overall record, the team’s fourth straight year with a conference regular-season or tournament title. Six players were honored with spots on the All-Conference team, including Freedom Player of the Year Paul Blejec, who was one of four first-team selections and also was named to the ABCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region team. The honor marked the fifth consecutive year at least one Valiant was named to an All-Region team, and all 13 of the program’s All-Region honorees have come under Caulfield’s watch.

A three-time conference Coach of the Year, Caulfield is a superb 145-104-1 in his six seasons as a collegiate head coach, including an impressive 80-33 record in conference play. Over those six seasons, Caulfield has coached 13 All-Region players and 31 All-Conference selections.

Caulfield was named the Freedom Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 after leading the Valiants to a 26-17 overall record and the Freedom Conference regular-season championship, the program’s third straight conference regular-season title. The skipper became the second active Manhattanville coach to reach the 100-win plateau on March 8 with a 13-12 win over La Roche College. Caulfield’s players also received plenty of individual accolades, as Stephen Pinto was named the conference Player of the Year and National ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winner to lead three All-Conference honorees and two Valiants to be named to the ABCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region teams.

In the team's first season with the Freedom Conference in 2008, Caulfield guided the Valiants to a 29-13 record, including a 14-4 mark in conference play. Manhattanville won a conference regular-season championship for the second consecutive season and also earned a berth in the Freedom Tournament Championship game.

Caulfield led the Valiants to the Skyline Conference regular-season and tournament championships in 2007, in the process guiding Manhattanville to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. The 2007 team finished the year ranked seventh in the New York Region and was comprised mainly of young talent recruited by Caulfield. Six of the Valiants' nine starters were freshmen or sophomores, including All-Region honorees Blejec and A.J. Triano.

The 2006 Valiants also qualified for the postseason, advancing to the ECAC Metro Tournament and finishing the year 22-19, including a 13-5 mark in the Skyline Conference. In his first season of 2005, Caulfield led the Valiants to a 23-15 mark, setting a program record for wins by a first-year coach and earning Skyline Conference Coach of the Year honors for the first time.

Before taking the head coaching reigns of the Valiant program, Caulfield worked as an assistant at Manhattanville from 2002-04, serving as the team's pitching coach.

A 2000 graduate of New York Region power Cortland State, Caulfield was a part of the Red Dragon team for five seasons as a player and coach, helping the team to the College World Series in each year. Caulfield also earned his Master's Degree from Mercy College in 2004.

A native of Westchester County, Caulfield currently resides in Stamford, Conn.
