BOSTON, Mass.
– The Manhattanville men's and women's cross country teams made the trip up to Franklin Park to take part in the annual Codfish Bowl Cross Country meet on Saturday morning, with the women's team placing 19th out of 23 teams and the men taking 22nd out of 25 squads.

In the 32nd annual women's race, the Greater Boston Track Club earned first place by grabbing five of the top 11 finishes in the 5K race, with Bates College taking second as the top collegiate team. On the men's side, Bentley College earned top honors in the 43rd annual 8K event.

Junior Sarah Gustavsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) continued to impress for the Manhattanville women, as she finished 61st out of 243 runners. Her time of 21:37 made her the first Valiant to cross the finish line for the fourth consecutive meet, all of which have been run at different distances.

Sophomore Kelly Davidson (Yorba Linda, Calif.) also continued to find her stride after missing the first two events of the year, as she finished just a few seconds after Gustavsson in 21:49. Her time placed her 71st overall and also was the second-fastest 5K time of her career, behind just her 20:27.40 time at last year's Codfish Bowl.

Freshman Ashley Luiso (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and senior Patricia Neubauer (Potsdam, Germany) also found their way into the top 150 at the event, placing 143rd and 149, respectively. Luiso crossed the line in 23:59, while Neubauer came in close behind with a time of 24:09. Freshman Alexis Moore (Voorheesville, N.Y.) trailed Neubauer by just a few seconds as well, posting a 24:21 finish that placed her 160th overall.

Junior Pilar Mahady (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) (25:32) and sophomore Nicole Muschio (Pawling, N.Y.) (26:03) placed 194th and 205th overall, respectively, to complete the Valiant women's roster at the event.

For the men, junior Mike Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.) finished the course in 30:07, placing him 139th out of 287 runners and making him the top-finishing Valiant for the fourth time in as many meets this year.

Freshman Daniel Caggiano (Staten Island, N.Y.) continued his solid first season as well, posting his fourth straight top-two team finish by finishing in 31:31 to place 176th overall. Classmate Ben Smith (Proctor, Vt.) also ran well, taking almost 30 seconds off his previous best 8K time of the year and cracking the top 200 with a time of 32:00 that placed him 197th overall.

Sophomore Chad Spaeth (Carmel, N.Y.) (34:15) and junior Josh Marrero (Elmsford, N.Y.) (34:37) rounded out the top five Valiant men's finishers with 246th place and 256th place finishes, respectively, while sophomore Garry Ramirez (New York, N.Y.) finished in 39:46 to place 279th and complete the Valiant men's finishes.

The Valiant cross country teams will begin the month of October next Sunday, as the team makes the short trip to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx for the CUNY Invitational beginning at 11 a.m.
