MOLINE, Ill. – Former Valiant All-American
Mickey Lang '11 recently completed his first professional season on the ice in style, as the Quad City Mallards forward was named the Oakley CHL First Star for the month of March, as announced by the Mallards and the Central Hockey League on Tuesday.
Lang led the CHL in scoring during the final month of the regular season, scoring nine goals and adding 13 assists for a league-best 22 points. He had at least one point in 11 of the team's 12 games during March and also posted eight multi-point contests during that span, while finishing the season with a flourish: he scored once in the final four games of the year and had eight points (four goals, four assists) during a five-game points streak to conclude the season.
To be in the running for the monthly honor, players receive five points every time they are named first star of a game, earn three points for taking the second star and pick up one point for third-star recognition. Lang earned top-three honors in eight of the team's 12 games in March, picking up two first-star honors, four second-star honors and a pair of third-star honors.
After a slow start to the season, Lang became a key member of the Mallards during the latter part of the season, registering 22 points in the final 13 games of the season. On the year, the first-year pro tallied 19 goals with 21 assists for 40 points in 61 games.
Lang graduated from Manhattanville in 2011 after a stellar four-year career on the ice for the Valiants, scoring 47 goals with 46 assists for 93 career points. A 2010 AHCA All-America first-team selection, he concluded his career second in goals, seventh in points and 10th in assists in school history. He became the 26th player in men's hockey program history to continue his career at the professional level after graduation.
