ANNVILLE, Pa. – Manhattanville men's tennis senior
Dean Tahir (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday afternoon, after posting two wins in the Valiants' 6-3 victory over Eastern on Saturday.
Tahir was one of three dual winners for Manhattanville in the team's third straight Freedom Conference victory, earning wins at second singles and first doubles. The senior teamed up with classmate
Michael Capozzi (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/San Judas Tadeo) – last week's Freedom Player of the Week – to pick up an 8-3 win over Tyler Hoagland and Jonny Shenk in doubles play, and then posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Tyler Schultz at the second-singles flight.
The senior has been a constant near the top of the lineup in both singles and doubles play this year, posting a 4-3 mark at second singles and a 4-1 mark at first doubles. Overall, he has a 6-9 singles record and a 7-8 doubles record.
With a few matches still remaining in his collegiate career, Tahir already ranks third in career doubles victories at Manhattanville with a 47-29 all-time mark, while also sitting in a tie for sixth place in career singles wins (32).
Tahir and Manhattanville (3-4, 3-0 Freedom) will return to the court on Wednesday night, as the Valiants travel to NYU for an 8 p.m. matchup.
