ANNVILLE, Pa. – After a record-setting week for the Manhattanville women's lacrosse team, sophomore attacker
Casandra Honovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) was recognized by the Freedom Conference as the Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Honovich had a huge week offensively for the Valiants, scoring 17 goals with two assists for 19 points in two games. In the process, she became the first player in program history to reach 100 career goals as a sophomore and the second to record multiple 50-goal seasons.
Her best game of the week came on Saturday, when she tied the program single-game record with 10 goals in a 23-13 win over Misericordia to surpass the 100 mark for her career. The 10 tallies were the most since Katie Frattarola '02 in 1999 and the most by a Freedom Conference player this season. The sophomore started the week on Tuesday at Eastern, leading all scorers with seven goals and nine points.
Honovich is in the midst of another stellar season for the Valiants, as she leads all Freedom Conference players with 50 goals and has added eight assists for 58 points. With her 50 goals this year, she became only the second player in program history to record more than one 50-goal season, joining Frattarola, who did so three times.
In just her second season, the attacker already has 109 goals and 10 assists for 119 points in 28 career games, placing her ninth in both goals and points all-time at Manhattanville.
Honovich and Manhattanville (3-9, 2-1 Freedom) will face another key Freedom Conference contest on Saturday, as the Valiants travel to King's (Pa.) for a 1 p.m. matchup.
