PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior
Dan Fiorito (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) was named to the ABCA and D3Baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region teams after a season in which he led the Valiants in most offensive categories. After earning second-team All-Region honors from D3Baseball.com on Friday, Fiorito was named the ABCA All-Region first-team shortstop on Tuesday afternoon.
After earning first-team honors from the ABCA, he is now eligible for All-American honors from the coaches' organization. Fiorito previously earned All-American honorable mention status from D3Baseball.com as a sophomore in 2010.
Fiorito began the season by being named a top-three draft prospect in Division III by
Baseball America in early February, and he followed that up with one of the best seasons by a Manhattanville baseball player. The senior hit .411 with 12 home runs, 36 RBI and a team-leading 51 runs scored. His 12 home runs set a new single season record by a Valiant ballplayer as did his 111 total bases in 2012.
The shortstop also went 21-for-24 in stolen base attempts with 13 doubles and 110 defensive assists, all of which led the team. Fiorito was named Freedom Conference Player of the Week and subsequently the NCBWA/D3Baseball.com National Player of the Week during the first week in the month of April after hitting .611 with five home runs, eight RBI, and 12 runs scored during a four-game stretch.
At the end of the Freedom Conference schedule, Fiorito was honored as the Freedom Player of the Year while being named to the All-Conference First Team as well. He solidified his selection by hitting .357 with three home runs, five RBI, 14 total bases and a 1.000 slugging percentage in the three games during the Freedom Conference Championship.
With one year of eligibility left, Fiorito finished his undergraduate career with a .397 batting average with 116 runs, 21 home runs, 108 RBI while slugging .648. He reached base via walk 53 times, coupled with his 158 hits gave him a .474 on-base percentage. He finished with 36 stolen bases, while making 129 put-outs with 193 assists and a .931 fielding percentage while playing outfield, third base and shortstop in his three seasons respectively.
