Mickey Lang '11 Signs One-Year Deal with the AHL's Toronto Marlies

Mickey Lang '11 will be making his third trip to the AHL to start the 2014-15 season.
TORONTO, Ontario – Former Manhattanville All-American and reigning ECHL Most Valuable Player Mickey Lang '11 will be taking his game to the American Hockey League for the 2014-15 season after signing a one-year deal with the Toronto Marlies, the Toronto Maple Leafs' top minor-league affiliate announced on Monday.

After two short-term trips to the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs (2012-13) and the Iowa Wild (2013-14) over the last two seasons, Lang will spend the upcoming season full-time with the Marlies. The signing keeps Lang one step away from the National Hockey League and continues his rapid ascent up the professional ranks since graduating just three years ago.

Lang had a stellar year in 2013-14 with the Fort Wayne Komets and the Orlando Solar Bears, earning ECHL MVP and All-ECHL first-team recognition after combining for a league-best 44 goals and becoming the first ECHL skater to reach the 40-goal plateau since 2010-11. He finished the season with 46 goals and 35 assists in 73 games overall, including his first career AHL goal during a five-game stint with the Wild in January.

In 203 career games as a professional, Lang is still averaging over a point per game in the last three years, having found the net 110 times with 98 assists for 208 points.

A 2011 graduate of Manhattanville with a bachelor's degree in history, Lang finished his decorated four-year career second all-time in goals at the school, scoring 47 goals with 46 assists for 93 points in a Valiant uniform. He had his breakout season as a junior, when he was named an AHCA All-America first-team selection and the ECAC West Conference Player of the Year after scoring 22 goals with 16 assists for 38 points.

Toronto is coming off a 2013-14 season in which the Marlies reached game seven of the Western Conference Finals before falling to eventual Calder Cup champion Texas.
