Seniors
Dillon Healy (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) and
Sam Garito (New Rochelle, N.Y./Iona Prep) combined to allow just three runs on the day, striking out five and propelling Manhattanville into the third round of the postseason.
Manhattanville (25-15 overall) turned the tables in game two, this time using a big first inning of their own to jump ahead of the Monarchs (23-15 overall). After the Monarchs manufactured a run in the top of the first, Lynch tied the program's career RBI mark with his 131st career run batted in with a single to score Gallagher. After Anselmi was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Delahanty brought home Lynch with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
King's leveled the score with two runs in the top of the third on RBI singles from Kyle Lupas and Christian Pack to make it a 3-3 game. Healy shut the Monarchs down over the next three innings however to keep the score even at three runs apiece.
In the bottom of the sixth, Anselmi gave Manhattanville the lead with a shot off the top of the fence to score Lynch. With runners on first and second, Delahanty came up next and laid down a sacrifice bunt, but Scoggins rounded third and beat the throw home to score from second base on the play and give Manhattanville a 5-3 lead.
The Valiants added an insurance run in the seventh on a two out single from Scoggins to score Nunez and make it a 6-3 game after seven innings of play.
Garito came on in relief in the sixth inning, and shutdown the Monarchs over the final 3.1 innings, allowing just one run in the ninth to earn his fifth win of the season and keep Manhattanville alive in the postseason.
The Valiants will now wait for the result of the winners bracket game between DeSales University and Misericordia University Saturday evening to determine who they will face in another elimination game tomorrow at 1:30 P.M. Coverage of that game can be found at GoValiants.com/Live.
